Wonders of Nature Tour

Begin in the southern end of Pocahontas County at Beartown State Park, one of the most intriguing areas in the state.  Beartown is a natural area of 107 acres, noted for its massive boulders, overhanging cliffs and unusual rock formations.  The Park is open April through October.

Next, travel Rt. 39/55 to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center and the Cranberry Glades, a botanical area where a number of unusual plant species flourish.  A boardwalk encircles the glades area.  Interpretive tours can be arranged through the Cranberry Mountain Visitors Center.

Just down the road, five miles west, you’ll find the breathtaking Falls of Hills Creek, a triple waterfall that is the second highest in the state.  The upper falls are handicapped accessible.  Steps descend to the three waterfalls that cascade 25, 45 and 63 feet!

Double back to the Highland Scenic Highway for a gorgeous ride along one of the highest highways in the East.  This highway loops around to Rt. 219 north of Marlinton. Continue north to the Elk River or Snowshoe areas.

At the end of the day, travel to the top of Snowshoe Mountain for shopping in the Village.  Spend the night at Snowshoe Mountain or one of the many inns, cabins or bed & breakfasts in the area.
