Time Travel Tour

Travel to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park and explore the old logging town before boarding a steam logging locomotive for a trip to Bald Knob, the second highest point in West Virginia.  Box lunches can be arranged through the State Park. Approximate time is 4 hours) 

In the evening, visit the renowned Snowshoe Mountain Resort and enjoy shopping at the Village. 

Stay overnight at Snowshoe or one of the area’s unique inns, cabins or bed & breakfasts. In the morning, travel to Rt. 66 east to Rt. 28/92 to Durbin and visit the Rail & Trail Store at the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad.  After shopping, drive six miles west to the Cheat Bridge station to board the Cheat Mountain Salamander Rail Bus. 

This enclosed, self-propelled replica of a 1920’s Edwards rail car travels through lush wilderness areas to the logging ghost town of Spruce.  Approximate time is 4 hours.
Excursion Options:

If you are traveling on weekends between the beginning of June and the end of September, you may want to book the group on one of the Cass Dinner Trains.  These excursions include a barbeque dinner and live bluegrass music.  Reservations should be made well in advance.  Reservations can be made through Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, 800.CALL.WVA.

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad is offering Moonlight Fire on the Greenbrier excursions one Saturday night per month during the summer when the moon is full.  Dinner is part of the package.   For reservations, call 877-686-7245.
Both Cass Scenic Railroad and the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad offer shorter excursions.  The Cass excursion to Whittaker Station, a restored logging camp, takes approximately 1.5 hours roundtrip. 

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR’s Durbin Rocket steam excursion train makes a 1.5 hour round trip along the Greenbrier River.
